Some ideas include: photo albums of work, prominent displays, parental contact, dedicated days, or weeks, pupils are empowered through a council..
Examples of where it has been successful:
“pupils were appalled to realize that the firm (catering) were prolific in creating waste in the form of plastic and foil containers”
- reports of vandalism decreased as pupils feel responsible for the environment
- through science pupils realized that energy was being wasted , it was raised as a whole school issue and a campaign was started to reduce energy consumption
- each class room has ‘energy notes’ and eco monitors to check lights are off and doors are closed
- each class has a recycling paper bin, managed by pupils
- paper drawer, where the 2nd side can be used rather than recycling
- various gardens set up around the school growing herbs and vegetables
that are used in the kitchen
